Success stories

Roskilde Municipality

With its 80000 inhabitants, Roskilde is one of the largest cities in Zealand, Denmark.
The department for Technical Services & Environment is among other things responsible for local roads, city buildings, city planning, and building and environmental permits. Often the department must deal with external parties such as contractors, citizens or companies applying for permits. Modern day construction management involves 2D/3D CAD tools, databases and images, and the file sizes are often greater than what comfortable can be handled by e-mail.

Pernille Orth, Section Manager, Technical Services & Environment:
In connection with building permits, it is great that we can send and receive e-mails without having to think about the size of the attached files. For example, we can send the entire architectural history of a property, which is easily 200 Mb or more, directly to the applicant by e-mail. This helps to provide both businesses and citizens with a better and faster service.

Ole Bech, IT Manager:
Initially, we didn't think that Bluewhale was to be used directly in connection with citizen-oriented services, but we must conclude that both the administration and the citizens have adapted the system. The reason is probably that Bluewhale is easy to understand and use, and it improves a system that people know and are comfortable with, namely e-mail.

DHI Group

In order to optimize the communication with large files the engineering company DHI Group has implemented Bluewhale Server.

Bluewhale Server is integrated with MS Exchange/AD and includes an add-in for MS Outlook.

Niels Erik Pedersen, Group IT Manager:
Communicating with clients and business partners should be as seamless as possible. Now we're able to send and receive large files using e-mail. This way, cumbersome and time-consuming work-arounds have become obsolete.

Implementing Bluewhale Server DHI Group has helped to reduce the rapidly growing storage requirements of the Exchange Server.

Niels Erik Pedersen, Group IT Manager:
Bluewhale allows us to keep large attachments out of our Exchange environment making mailbox sizes easier to manage. Also, we won't have to upgrade the Exchange Servers in our branch offices in order to hold more data.

Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen

Jørgen Skieller, IT-Manager:
Our research often involves many collaborating parties and vast amounts of data. One of our primary communication tools is e-mail. Unfortunately, though, it is often impossible to send files larger than 20 Mb using e-mail. In Outlook Bluewhale solves this problem by intercepting large files and redirecting them to our Bluewhale Server. Therefore, e-mails that bounce because of size are now a problem of the past.

Jørgen Skieller, IT-Manager:
We aim to provide the most effective and user friendly solutions for our researchers and students. With Bluewhale, very little user training is needed since Bluewhale integrates seamlessly in Outlook. Basically, all that the users need to know is that they can attach files of up to 4 Gb and count on them being delivered securely to the recipient.

Bluewhale can be used from Outlook, directly from a web browser or as a stand-alone desktop application.

Jørgen Skieller, IT-Manager:
This flexibility is great because it provides an easy way for researchers in the field to send large data sets even when working on computers where installation of new software is prohibited. Using Bluewhale we are also able to receive large files from research partners in a controlled and secure way. This helps to ensure smooth and efficient work processes.
